Storysmith provides storytelling performances and workshops for
adults, children. We work anywhere a story needs to be told: theatres,
schools, museums, galleries, prisons, festivals, weddings, christenings,
funerals, public celebration and corporate events.
Our storytelling evokes and nourishes the inner, imaginative world,
our ultimate source of creativity. Through the stories we tap
into
an ancient vein of tradition, offering inspiration, wonder and
insight to the audience, whether for entertainment, education,
team building
or healing.
Before TV, before books, before even writing there have always
been stories, told and retold from memory within the family and
wider community.
Storysmith is part of the worldwide revival of this oral tradition,
offering a repertoire of folktales, wondertales, myths and legends
from a myriad of cultures and traditions: including Arab, Islamic,
Greek and British traditions.
Storysmith was founded in January 2001 by storyteller, musician
and author Chris Smith PhD. Chris trained in performance storytelling
with Ben Haggarty and in the use of story in education with Alida
Gersie.
Clients include schools, local authorities, museums, international
charities, festivals, universities, theatres, rural touring schemes
and prisons.
